Anne Cary, 2009 Memphis Teaching Fellow

A 2009 Fellow, Anne Cary recently began her third year of teaching special education at Douglass K-8 School.  Last year Anne raised her students' achievement by more than two-and-a-half grade levels, on average, in both reading and math.  She founded and facilitates a student-driven community service organization at Douglass.  Recently a community member nominated Anne as a CNN Hero for going above and beyond her teaching responsibilities to do all she can to help her students' families.  Before joining MTF, Anne was a graduate student in Yale's Political Science Department.

Eric Hosman, 2009 Memphis Teaching Fellow

The students in Eric's math classes construct model bridges to scale, create spreadsheets to help them decide which vehicles best fit their needs and incomes, and design and build robots for national competitions. Eric has a Master's degree in Philosophy and was a Project Manager of IT before joining the Fellows program.

Catherine Lawson, 2009 Memphis Teaching Fellow

Catherine recently began her third year of teaching Special Education at South Side Middle School where she has been successful in teaching life skills to her students with severe to profound special needs. Consequently, in 2010 Catherine received the Barbara Bolton New Special Educator of the Year Award for the district. Catherine, a 2009 Rhodes College graduate, was one of fifteen students selected to participate in the Rhodes Summer Service Fellowship and also one of fifteen students selected to participate in the Rhodes Institute for Regional Studies.
